Day 8

Berrow 2000 Daily Report: Saturday 29th September

Auction Night

The Auction took place on Saturday night with over two thousand pounds raised to go towards the funding of Berrow for this year.

The week's racing trophies were presented before the Auction and a special Auction Lottery was held where everyone in the marquee was given a raffle ticket, to win cash prizes ranging from 50 pounds to 50 pence! (to be spent in the Auction)

Some special awards were presented to a couple of new members: firstly to member no. 999 (Denise), who was given a policeman's helmet, night vision goggles and a toy gun. Occasionally a member of the audience would shout "Police!" and Denise had to run over to give assistance, with the Pugh brothers Anthony and Steven following her shouting "Nee" and "Naw"!

The second special award went to new member no. 1000 (Carlos). It had been pre-arranged earlier in the week that the 1000th member would be bought a present from the Pound Shop by as many people as possible. By the end of the night, Carlos had loads of junk... sorry, I mean lots of presents!

The single item that raised the most money was a 5.3 metre "Next Generation" Predator - the first one that Peter Mirkovic had made in that size, in a lovely shade of orange, at a bargain £370!

Swampy (Mark Seaward) caused much amusement as he was so drunk that he couldn't remember bidding for items .. in fact he bid for practically everything in the auction!

At one point Pete from the X-Zone fell off his chair, we're not sure whether he was overcome with emotion or too much beer!

Mike Shaw auctioned Mark Kingshott's Libre jacket off to Andy Beveridge for 50 quid, then Peter Mirkovic was asked to sell his jacket to Mike! After a round of frantic bidding Mike eventually got the jacket - but ended up paying a lot more for it! It was commented that a Flexifoil employee should not really be advertising other manufacturers products, but that didn't put Mike off... he wanted that nice warm jacket!

The Auction was good fun as always, and was a nice end to a great week.
