Day 8

Berrow 2000 Daily Report: Saturday 29th September

Saturday was the big day for the event organisers. We woke to find a blue sky, and the day continued hot and sunny. It was also the first wind-free day of Berrow 2000!

In general it was a nice relaxing day - time to dry out kites and equipment, chill out and chat about the week with the other kite fliers. The "stick kites" were brought out - single line, dual and quad line kites, as well as frisbees, footballs, diabolos, juggling clubs, etc. Steve Passey and the X-Zone guys Andy & Pete made a "Puff the Magic Wind Dragon" at the edge of the sand dunes.

The buggiers wanted to get out onto the beach but the only way some of them could buggy was to be towed behind Mike Shaw's van! Andy Wardley then flew his Gemini out of the back of the van and even managed to do a 360!

Chris Croft got his 24.6 sq metre Nasawing out again, it still had the rip from last year where Walt had tried to launch it but it got caught on a ground stake! Mark Kingshott ran down the beach trying to launch it but the combination of too much brake line and not enough wind meant it only flew for a few seconds!

Later in the afternoon the wind picked up to a few mph and some buggiers with big kites were out trying to make the most of what was there. Lots of members of the public turned up to watch the event, which was a shame for them since the wind was non-existent for most of the day. However, most people agreed that it was nice to just have a day to "wind down" and relax.

The Auction took place on Saturday night, where much money was raised for the BBC. See the next page for details!
