Berrow '99 Daily Report

Day 5: Wednesday 22nd September 1999

Here we go again! The day dawned the same as ever - wet and miserable! Took a short walk down the beach to see what was happening at 10am - not a lot really! Most people were just turning up and sitting in their cars. Later on in the day some attempts were made at races, this resulted in the wind completely dying off and lots of very wet kites ending up in very wet puddles!

It was at this point that Dan Eaton tried to launch a 7.2m Skytiger, under strict instructions not to get it wet or dirty. After a couple of attempts to launch the monster, it promptly nosedived and ended up upside down on the wet sand!

3pm - and the sun came out, the grey clouds cleared away, the wind picked up to around 15-20mph and everything started coming to life! Buggiers filled the sands, kite surfers took advantage of the good weather, a reporter from the local paper dropped in to take photos, and lots of spectators came to watch all the fun and games. This probably turned out to be one of the best afternoons this week for buggying! Let's just hope that the weather continues to improve throughout the week!...

The night in the marquee was very low key - a keyboardist kept us entertained with renditions of 60's and 70's songs and we drank the local cider. Brian challenged Mike and Ian to wear something for 24 hours, for sponsorship (but wouldn't tell them what). They agreed, 30 pounds sponsorship money was collected from the audience, Brian doubled that amount and then revealed to Mike and Ian what they had to wear for 24 hours- "Big Boobs"! (from the Pound Shop of course!!)

The Slow-Bo award was given to Annie AGAIN! as she had hated it so much! Needless to say she was not very happy...

There were two casualties today who ended up in hospital after having bumps on the beach. Still, no permanent damage was done (we hope!) and they will just have to take it easy for a day or two! They both managed to make it into the beer tent, so they can't have been that bad!..
