Middle Wallop Kite & Buggy Festival 2000

Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th August 2000

The Middle Wallop Kite & Buggy Festival was well attended this year, by kite fliers, buggiers, and public alike.

Saturday was a very hot and sunny day, with light winds that gradually increased throughout the day. Some of the best buggying was done just before sunset, when the wind was quite good. The kite flying went on well after darkness, with illuminated kites flying high in the air.

New traction kites were on show at Middle Wallop - the new Flexifoil Nexus belonging to Mike Shaw, and two prototype Predators (4.7 and 6.5 metre) being tested by Mark Kingshott.

The festival was very informal, with no arena, organised events or displays, however it was nice just to walk around and see all the different types of kites being flown with 1, 2, 3 or 4 lines!

The Megateam display was impressive, with 8 kites flying in formation to Kathy Jarvis' calls. John Eaton gave buggy lessons while Mike Shaw displayed his mountainboarding skills with a Flexifoil Blade.

Relaxation followed, in the beer tent where Hayley and Roy provided the thirsty masses with "Buggy Ale" and raffle tickets, and Mike Shaw stuck Flexifoil stickers on anything that moved (and everything that didn't!).
