Bureaucracy and red tape from the local council and excessive demands from the landowners has led to the event being cancelled. With the current restrictions and regulations, it is unlikely that the Blackheath Kite Festival will ever be held again. London (Hackney) Kite Festival: James Robertshaw informs us that "It's with great regret that I'm letting you know that we will not be holding a London Kite festival this year. We have no substantial grant / financial backing of any sort this year and we want to run a show that is worth holding so the organising committee has decided to work towards a bigger and better festival for 2002". Bristol International Kite Festival:
Unfortunately this festival was confirmed as being cancelled, on 8th July
2001. The reason is that foot & mouth disease is still spreading in
the area, and as Ashton Court has a deer population, they could not guarantee
that the site would be available for use for the festival. No alternative
site is available, so the festival has had to be cancelled. Read the official
