Middle Wallop Kite & Buggy Festival

Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th August 2001

Location: Middle Wallop Airfield, nr Andover, Hampshire.
Organised by: Roy Broadley, Kites Up.

Saturday morning started sunny with broken cloud. The wind was a pretty much perfect 12-15mph and the field was soon busy with kite fliers and kite buggiers keen to get out and enjoy the sunshine. The final round of the STACK UK National Series got underway, with teams and individuals competing in the ballet and precision competitions.

However at 3pm it all changed. A large black cloud came overhead and emptied its contents right over the festival site. The beer tent suddenly became "the place to be!". Despite the torrential rain there were still people out there buggying and flying kites - that's dedication for you!

Saturday night saw an auction taking place in the beer tent in aid of STACK's Eurocup event to be held at Gosport in October. Over £2,300 was raised!

Sunday was a beautiful sunny day with lighter winds than Saturday, between 5-10mph for most of the day. There were even more kite buggiers in attendance. This time the good weather lasted all day.

We had such a great time at this festival - Middle Wallop is without doubt one of the best places to buggy in the UK. There are rumours that next year the festival may be held twice a year here... we will keep you posted!
