Kennet Valley Kite Festival

Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th July 2001

Location: Henwick Worthy Sports Fields, Thatcham, nr Newbury, Berkshire.
Organised by: Kreative Kites / Kennet Valley Kite Flyers.

The Kennet Valley Kite Flyers were yet again blessed with good weather on Sunday for this, the 5th annual Kite Festival. The wind was mostly light throughout the day, sometimes dropping off completely but then picking up again shortly afterwards. The sun was out for most of the day, in between the little fluffy clouds.

There was plenty for kids to do at the kite festival, including teddy bear & sweet drops, kite workshop, juggling, stilt walking and diablo fun, as well as a bouncy castle.

Rokkaku fights and team flying provided colourful displays in the arena, while on the main field area there were many different types of kite to be seen, from single line deltas to large traction kites, kite buggies and mountainboarding.

The Wind Gallery from Holland was on show with its collection of aeolian harps, wind chimes and hummers.

In all, an enjoyable and relaxing day at another well-organised event. Click on any photograph to see a larger version.
