Swindon Kite FestivalSaturday 12th & Sunday 13th May 2001Location: Headlands School, Swindon This year's Swindon Kite Festival was distinctly low-key, but enjoyable none the less. The event was not held at the Science Museum, Wroughton, as in previous years (and is not likely to be there again as the site owners wanted to charge the kite club thousands of pounds to use the site). Also, Foot & Mouth Disease had scuppered the plans to hold the festival at Rokes Farm. However, not to be deterred, the White Horse Kite Flyers put on a small but friendly festival in a school field instead. The weather on Saturday was fantastic - hot and sunny and windy too (what is happening with the British weather?) Perhaps it should have been called the Swindon International Kite Festival as not only was Marla "Raffle Queen" Miller (from the USA) present, but also Dan Kurahashi from Canada, who ran a kite workshop making kite trains and miniature tissue paper kites. Photos from Saturday are below. Click on any image to see a larger version.
