Worcester Kite Festival

Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd September 2001

Location: Hydro Extreme Centre, Worcester Road, Holt, Worcester, WR6 6NH
Organised by: John Eaton / Powerkiteshop

To celebrate the launch of his new kite shop at Hydro Extreme, John Eaton invited kite fliers, buggiers and kitesurfers to join him for a weekend of kiting fun ... and what fun we had!!

There is a 10 acre lake at the site, also a 20 acre buggy field, and the shop has a great view out over both. Wetsuits and equipment are available to hire and there are also kayaks, windsurfers and surfbikes to try out. Tuition is available and you can even take some of the kites out for a demo before you decide to buy.

Both days attracted a large number of kite buggiers and kitesurfers to the event, although there was a fairly light wind there were some brave attempts to cross the lake, whether on kiteboards or bigfoot buggies!

We also enjoyed flying our Revolutions over (and under) the lake which was a new experience - because the lake is shallow (5-6 feet maximum depth) we were able to completely submerge the kites then fly them straight out of the water - lots of fun!

After Dark

After a great day's kite flying on Saturday, we partied by the lake and listened to the excellent music being played by a band named Huron. Much alcohol was consumed, particularly by Ian Meredith, whose birthday was celebrated on the stroke of midnight. Determined not to be forcefully thrown into the lake, he jumped in himself then stripped off and walked back to the caravan butt naked. Yes, he knows how to celebrate in style!
