Wellington Country Park Kite Festival

Sunday 7th April 2002
Location: Wellington Country Park, off the A33 Reading
to Basingstoke Road, Hampshire.
Organised by: Kites
Up.
This was the second annual kite festival held at Wellington
Country Park, and it was blessed with beautiful weather and good winds.
This year the festival was held in a large field adjacent
to the main car park, which meant there was plenty of room for everyone
to fly kites. Although the wind was strong for most of the day, it changed
direction often, which made it difficult for some of the kites to stay
out of the trees. We have never seen so many kites stuck in trees in one
day!
Surprisingly, the early April weather did not disappoint.
It was warm and there was not a cloud in the sky all day. Time for shorts
and t-shirt and a tub of ice-cream... ahh!
Wellington Country Park is a popular place for families
to visit and so the childrens' Kite Making Workshop, run by the White
Horse Kite Flyers, proved very popular.
