Shop Profile: Sky Kites
We believe Sky Kites have now ceased trading since early 2003. January 2000 Owned and run by Peter Mirkovic, home of Predator Traction Kites, Sky Kites is a must to visit if you're ever in the area. Although Sky Kites still stocks sport kites and childrens' kites, their main area of business is now traction kite and buggy related. Inside, most of the shop is a kite workshop where Peter makes his championship winning Predator kites. The shelf above his sewing machine is crammed full of trophies and plaques, testament to the success of his Predators over the years. Visitors to his shop walk into a relaxed atmosphere where there is no pressure to buy anything, if you just want to have a chat and a cup of tea then that is fine. However this is not the shop to go into if you just want a 6mm endcap (especially if you haggle over the price!). Peter seems to live in his shop and even had Christmas dinner in there with his wife and family!
Sky Kites organised this years' Blackheath Easter Kite Festival, which was the first big kite festival of the year, and for me always one of the most enjoyable. As always, the organisation of these events takes a lot of preparation, hard work, and money, and this year's event was again a success, with plenty of kite flyers and public attending. See the Blackheath 2000 and Blackheath 1999 photos and review here. Well, we couldn't leave his shop without putting an order in for a couple of nice new Predator "Next Generation" kites - 1.6 and 2.2m. They have now arrived and we are suitably impressed -so watch out for us on the buggy field! You can see pictures of them in the Photo Gallery. |
