Apple in a Bottle

An apple is placed inside a bottle, see the photo below.
The neck of the bottle is much smaller than the apple. The apple is whole, the bottle is intact and there is no photographic trickery or picture manipulation.

How is it done ?

Apple Inside A Bottle

ANSWER

Find an apple tree in late May, early June. Place a bottle over a branch where an apple is forming and seal the two together as well as possible.
In late September / early October the apple should have ripened and hey-presto you have an apple in a bottle.

HINT: Use a number of bottles over different apples to guarantee getting at least one good one at the end of the season. Also keep the bottle upright with the neck at the bottom to stop water and condensation collecting.
